Platinum Palladium Printing |
|
The platinum palladium printing technique enables us to obtain black and white images with an amazingly wide tonal range and great delicacy in the highlights. This technique is considered to be the ultimate in printing quality for black and white photography. The tone of the resulting image varies according to the combination and concentration of the metal salts used in the photo-sensitive emulsion. The prints obtained through this method are not only more permanent than silver-gelatin prints, but also, strangely enough, longer lasting than the paper they are printed on. The support consists of natural fiber paper with a neutral ph. Images are printed by contact with a negative in the same format as the final print. Today’s digital technology allows us to obtain large format negatives of very high quality while cutting costs and printing times. The original we print from can be a computer file, a print or a traditional negative. For the prints or negatives the original image must be scanned or photographed so that a file can be produced: the negative used for a platinum/palladium print must have very specific features as regards color density and tonal range. Using Pictorico OHP to print the image, we thus create a digital negative from which we can print under UV light on the paper of choice.
