Maurizio Montagna was born in Milan in 1964.
In 1999 he was named as one of the best five young photographers at the 2005 Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie in Arles and again in 2005 he won the Premio Fotografia Italiana prize awarded by the Milano gallery, Fotografia Italiana. In 2007 he was one of eight young artists chosen to represent the “Italia Statement Section”, at the Paris Photo show with his project “Billboards”.

His work has been shown in collective exhibitions, including the Biennale dell'Immagine in Chiasso in 2008. Two project, “Albedo” (2004) and “Billboards” (2008), have been published in book form.
